The President of the Russian Federation signed the order "On Granting Federal Aid in 2008 to Non-Profit, Non-Governmental Organizations Contributing to the Development of Institutions of Civil Society," his press service reported.

According to the order, NGOs contributing to the development of civil society can apply for grant money on a competitive basis. The aid money allocated by the federal budget for 2008 – 1.5 billion rubles – will be distributed as grants "for the realization of socially significant projects."
