Wages for experienced accountants decreased to 20,000 rubles per month in November. Many attribute this to companies downsizing their accounting departments in relation to the financial crisis.

In the summer of 2008, the low-end wage for accountants with experience was 30,000 rubles. The tax and payroll specialists were receiving 40,000 – 45,000 rubles. Those skilled in International Financial Reporting Standards were getting 70,000 rubles.

Currently, however companies aren't demanding specialist and the demand for general accountants (earning lower pay) has increased by 5% over the past four months. The main requirements for the companies are extensive practical knowledge and ability to minimize the costs of the company.
