Alinga Quoted in Moscow Times on Taxation of Severance Packages
01.11.11 Alinga’s tax and audit manager, Galina Belikova was recently contacted by Russia’s most-respected English-language daily, The Moscow Times, to comment for an article on the likelyhood that severance packages will soon be taxed in Russia.
The Moscow Times reported Mrs. Belikova as telling them that “these payments usually involve very large sums — millions of rubles — and are paid out over a period of six months to a year or more."
She also informed them that "next year the social tax — pension, health insurance and similar payments — that companies pay on severance packages will also be lowered to 30 percent."
They reported that she also told them that "company executives sometimes use golden parachutes to give themselves a tax-free bonus. The executive is fired, given his package, then rehired after a period of time. Taxing the golden parachutes will eradicate this practice."
