Bill Proposes Permitting Shareholders To Make Private Agreements

Shareholders of Russian companies have long wanted the right to legally conclude agreements among themselves as well as with investors. The corresponding bill on shareholder agreements, prepared by the Ministry of Economic Development, is unlikely to find wide-spread support either within the legislative or executive spheres. Acceptance of the bill would create an institution of shareholder agreements in Russia, guaranteeing shareholders judicial defense if one of these private agreements were violated.
