Business Climate Situation In Russia Strained - Polled Businessmen

 26.04.09
Many Russian businessmen have described the business climate situation in the country as very strained, the general director of the national public opinion studies center VCIOM, Valery Fyodorov, has said.
"At the request of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs the VCIOM center has for two years in a row conducted representative polls of Russian businessmen," Fyodorov said in a live interview on the Ekho Moskvy radio station. "We probe into the opinion of some 1,200 people in different lines of business. We try to find out how they find Russia's business environment, what helps them, what hindrances they experience, and we try to expose some trends."
"This week we presented a survey indicating that the situation in Russia is rather strained and it would be so even without the crisis. The greatest problems are experienced by those Russian businessmen who are trying to start a new business from scratch," the chief of the VCIOM pollster said.
The degree of success in establishing one's own business in Russia is 2.89 points on a seven-point scale.
"Another major problem is the legal protection of private property. The rate is 3.11 points of the seven points possible, and the freedom of businesses and authorities independence of corruption is rated as 3.19 points. The level of businesses' social responsibility is 3.13 points," Fyodorov said.
