In June-July the regional division of the Main Department of Internal Affairs (GUVD) has been conducting large-scale inspections of companies which employ foreigners in Russia. Police are conducting the inspections without the help of the Federal Migration Service (FMS).

Two “test” inspections were conducted in the beginning of June in the Lyuberetsy District. Investigators found 200 illegal foreign workers in the two companies. Although the majority of them had labor permits, more than half of those presented were expired.

According to one of Moscow’s GUVD representatives, evidence of infringements is collected and then sent to territorial divisions of the FMS. The FMS will make decisions regarding how to hold a company and its management responsible for infractions committed.
