Duma Suggests Turning Migration Control Over To Private Companies
 21.03.08
The State Duma Committee on Labor and Social Policy is developing a draft bill proposing that entry and employment of foreign migrants be supervised by specialized private companies holding state licenses.
The committee suggests creation of such organizations based on existing private employment agencies and migration labor registry offices. A parliament hearing of the draft is scheduled for April and the draft is scheduled for completion by the fall of 2008.
According to authors of the draft, the new law must obligate organizations applying for licenses to provide labor migrants with registration and living space, medical, social and pension insurance, and also training in "basics of living in the country with knowledge of the main laws."
