Employees On Unpaid Leave Not Entitled To Disability Benefits
 15.02.09
If an employee on unpaid leave falls ill, employers are not required to pay disability benefits for that illness, Lydia Novitskaya declared on the hotline “Temporary Disability Benefit.”
She asserts that, during this period, doctors should not even issue a sick leave certificate. If an employee falls ill during leave, the certificate should only be issued at the end of the leave period and only if the illness is still present. If the certificate is given, then the employer should only begin to pay the benefit from the date when the employee was supposed to return to work, i.e. after the end of unpaid leave.
