Welcome from Alinga!
Last year, Russia had more than 100 billionaires. This year, it has fewer than 50. Last year, the richest Russian was worth 40 billion dollars. This year, the richest Russian owns 14 billion in holdings – and it’s not the same Russian. This is all according to
a new list just released yesterday from Finans Magazine.
For businesses who have survived this much of the crisis, there is some hope. Falling rents, salaries, and more pliable suppliers mean holding onto your business can be a bit easier. Many assets and businesses in Russia are now undervalued, meaning businesses with purchasing power are in a better position to grow. Lastly, those who read further will better know Russia’s legal, tax, and business environment – to know better whether to hold on or make a move.
Our next analytical issue, this time on mergers and acquisitions in Russia, will be out next month!
