Issuance Of External Passports Tightened
 26.12.07
A unified passport for Russians traveling internally and abroad will not be implemented in Russia, according to the director of the Federal Migration Service. The officer assured that there will be no uniform passport, and also that the internal Russian passport is “overloaded”. He explained that he believes it to be absurd to use the document, certifying one’s citizenship, in medical institutions, for example. There are other documents which can and should be used in such cases.
Also, the FMS tightened the system of issuing external (traveling) passports. Only the owner of the passport will be able to receive it at the FMS office; it will not be released to a third person even with the power of attorney.
