Russia Triples Amount Of Arms Exports Since 2000

 01.06.09
Russia has almost tripled arms exports since 2000, Rosoboronexport department head Valery Varlamov told Interfax-AVN.
"Russia exported about $3 billion worth of armaments and military hardware in 2000. The overall exports amounted to more than $8.3 billion in 2008," Varlamov said.
Rosoboronexport deliveries stood at $6.72 billion, while other exporters delivered $1.6 billion worth of products, he said.
The former Soviet Union annually exported $25 billion worth of armaments and military hardware. "Yet only $2-3 billion worth of products were paid for with money. Now we received almost all of our profits in hard currency and deliver nothing for free," Varlamov said.
The Rosoboronexport portfolio of orders grows each year. It currently nears $30 billion, he said.
Each year Rosoboronexport signs 1,700 contracts with Russian plants for the delivery of military products.
