Federal Tax Service Challenges Companies Absent On The Internet

 20.11.08
Michael Mokretzov, the head of Russia’s Federal Tax Service (FTS), added two more criteria to list of characteristics of "shady" private companies. These are an absence of public advertizing in the mass media and the absence of an internet site. The FTS continues offering guidelines to help businessmen avoid entering into business relationship with "shady" companies.
Michael Mokretzov also explained that entrepreneurs should avoid companies that do not offer personal contact information for their leadership upon signing contracts with their partners. Another suspicious factor is an absence of documented proof of the director’s powers, including a copy of his/her personal ID.
According to tax authorities, companies should check every contractor against the Unified State Register of Legal Entities to ensure they are listed there.
All transactions with "shady" companies will be considered suspicious by the tax service.
Lawyers agree, if they are not considered the only criteria, that these criteria are useful. Absence of public advertisement by a company involved in consumer markets, and the absence of a website for any serious company must strike a warning note with its contractors. However, a website may be the only thing a company has, and even a fraudulent entity can pay for an advertisement.
