Medvedev Criticises State Of Affairs In Developing Info Society

 13.02.09
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is dissatisfied with the rate of development of information society in Russia.
In his remarks at a session of the Council for the Development of Information Society in Russia here on Thursday, Medvedev pointed out with irony, "Russia has, the 72nd “pride of place” in the rating of the countries' readiness for a network world ".
"In 2005, we (Russia) ranked the 56th by the index of development of an 'electronic government' and the 92nd in 2007," he said.
"To think that we have got an 'electronic government' is fanciful. We have no 'electronic government' at all," President Medvedev said.
"We are lacking a planning system (in this respect). Every month we use tonnes of paper for the circulation of regulatory documents alone among agencies," the Head of State lamented.
"No one else does things in such a manner. This is, maybe, because we are such a wealthy nation, having a good deal of forests," Medvedev added sarcastically.
"We have nothing to boast of," the President summed up.
