Moscow Region Lowers Foreign Labor Quota

According to Victor Rushev, head of Department of Labor and Social Affairs of Moscow Region, the 2009 quota for foreign labor in the Moscow Region will be decreased 20 percent.
Rushev announced, “Taking into consideration the economic crisis, the government has decided to provide additional employment opportunities for the residents of the Moscow Region.”
Earlier, the government of the Russian Federation adopted a resolution stating that theh regions will be allowed only 50 percent of the 3.9 million foreign workers they had requested for 2009.
The need to lowering the number of foreign workers has been repeated stated by Moscow mayor Yury Luzhkov, Andrey Isaev, head of Duma Committee on Labor and Social Policy, and Michael Shmakov, head of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia.
