Priests In Siberia Throw Shoulder Into Convincing Men To Pay Alimonies

 16.07.09
Priests in the Krasnoyarsk territory in Siberia have thrown shoulder into an effort to rectify habits of the people whom the authorities list as fraudulent evaders of alimonies.
An appeal to the Krasnoyarsk diocese to help clear out the situation with fraudulent evaders came from the service of court marshals.
Clerics appointed by the diocese attend meetings between the marshals and evaders and try to evoke the sense of paternal responsibility for their children in them.
Sessions of this kind have been held in several districts of the Krasnoyarsk territory, and some of them have proved really successful.
On one occasion, the father superior of a church managed to bring up so powerful an emotion in his conferee that the man agreed to pay out the overdue alimonies for the previous twenty-four months and also asked for a permission to see his son.
According to officials at the territorial branch of the Federal Service of Court Marshals, "the objective of these joint efforts taken by the marshals and clerics is to urge the debtors to act properly on court rulings and resolutions issued by other agencies."
The priests also preach among the population on the inadmissibility of living at the expense of others or on loan, having a consumerist attitude to life in general and to other people, and espousing the philosophy of money-grabbing.
The priests tell their interlocutors that the Church declares non-return of debts to be an equivalent of thieving.
A total of 689 criminal cases citing fraudulent evasion of alimonies have been instituted in the Krasnoyarsk territory since the beginning of the year. As many as 135 cases of that number feature women.
