Conditions for preventing internal and external threats to national security have been created in Russia, says the Russian National Security Strategy for the period up to 2020 approved by President Dmitry Medvedev.
"On the whole, prerequisites have been created that will allow us to reliably prevent internal and external threats to national security and to dynamically develop the Russian Federation and to turn it into a leading power in terms of technological progress, people's quality of life and influence on global processes," the strategy says.
Russia successfully countered the impact of the systemic political and socioeconomic crisis of the late 1990s, the document says.
The country's government managed to "stop a decline in citizens' living standards and quality of life, did not yield to the onslaught of nationalism, separatism and international terrorism, prevented the discrediting of the Constitution, preserved the (country's) sovereignty and territorial integrity, restored opportunities to enhance (Russia's) competitiveness and to defend its national interests as a key player of multi-polar international relations that are taking shape today," it says.
Conditions have been established in Russia that will allow its authorities to bolster the national security system, and the country's legal space has been consolidated, the strategy says.
Top economic objectives have been achieved in Russia, and the investment appeal of the country's national economy has grown, the document said.
There has also been a revival of Russia's traditional ideals, spirituality and appropriate attitude toward the nation's historic memory, it says. Social accord based on common values is also becoming stronger, it says.
