Russia has to build extra 250,000 kilometres of roads until 2030 to ensure normal functioning of the economy, Deputy Transport Minister Oleg Belozerov said in an interview with the Vesti news channel on Thursday.
At present, the country has 1.1 million kilometres of roads, he said.
"We need 1.350 million kilometres of roads for our economy to function normally and to be not a restraining force. We have to build these roads until 2030. We have such plans and will translate them into reality," the deputy minister said.
Belozerov stressed that categories of roads will be also changed.
"If now there are mainly two-lane highways and only 40 percent of four-lane roads in the country, by 2030 we will already have 80 percent of such roads," he said.
