Moscow tax inspectors are more often consulting foreign tax authorities. Last year they requested information from foreign tax authorities 764 times, a 10 percent increase from the year before. Likewise, Moscow's tax inspectors, in comparison with the year before, received three times as many requests for information from their foreign colleagues. They received 3,450 requests in 2007. The majority came from tax inspectors in Belarus, for those documents on the importation of goods and payment of indirect taxes which are not included in the shared electronic information exchange system used by Russia and Belarus.
