Russian Language Becomes A Citizenship Requirement

According to a decree approved by the President in 2002, those wishing to obtain Russian citizenship will have to pass an exam that shows that their written and oral Russian language levels are sufficient "for the language environment." Therefore, applicants for Russian citizenship will have to submit a language certificate along with the other documentation.
The decree, N 1325, was approved November, 14th, 2002.
