 04.07.08
The number of Russians who think that the chosen development course in Russia is correct has been growing year on year, according to opinion polls which the VTsIOM Russian Public Opinion Center carried out in 46 Russian regions every May from 2004 to 2008.
The percentage of respondents who had negative opinions of Russia's development vector have been perceived negatively in 2004 - 2005 (33%), is twice as high as the number of negative assessments in 2008 (15%), VTsIOM told Interfax on Wednesday.
Respondents tended to view the economic situation in Russia generally more critically than their own financial situation in 2004 - 2005.
The number of positive assessments of the economic situation in Russia varied from 6% to 9%, while from 10% to 12% viewed their own financial situation positively in that period. Negative assessments were attributed by 40% - 41% and 33% - 34% then.
Respondents' attitude did not change drastically in 2006. As to 2007, 15% of respondents noted positive shifts in the economic development, while 11% stated that their own financial situation had improved.
A total of 22% still viewed their own financial situation negatively in May 2008. The number of respondents with positive and negative attitudes to Russia's economic situation was almost equal (19% and 16%, respectively) in the same period.
The number of people dissatisfied with the political situation in the country dropped from 33% in 2005 to 17% in 2007 and matched the number of positive assessments. In May 2008, the number of positive assessments (27%) was three times higher than the number of negative assessments (9%).
