The Firing Season Is Ending

 27.03.09
A survey of 1000 personnel officers around the country, mostly representatives of small and mid-sized companies, carried out March 16-17, showed promising results. Over four months, the number of companies planning to down-size their work force was decreased two-fold (5% as opposed to 12% in 2008). 11% of respondents previously planning down-sizing had since changed their minds. The most common explanation was, “All the employees we could get rid of are already gone.” 54% of companies are not currently down-sizing or have future plans to down-size.
Representatives of 5% of the companies said they went too far with staff down-sizing and now they’re looking to hire personnel back. Other respondents reported they were searching for employees, too. At the time of the survey only 21% of companies were down-sizing (in November 2008 this number was 22%). The survey also indicated that employees are more frequently leaving of their own volition.
