Russia is expected to gather record harvests of grain crops, fruit and vegetables this year, the country's weathermen forecast proceeding from meteorological monitoring in various Russian regions.
"The weather forecast for this summer is very promising from the viewpoint of harvests. As for grain crops, this year's harvest may near record high," Deputy Chairman of the Russian Hydrometeorological Service Alexander Frolov said on Tuesday.
He takes part in the 11th International Scientific and Industrial Forum, Great Rivers-2009, which opened in Nizhny Novgorod.
"Up-to-date conditions were sufficiently good. Weather was warm. There were no reports on frosts. Water reserves are big, which is very important for future harvest," Frolov said.
"Both winter and spring crops practically were not affected, excluding several regions of the Southern Federal District and the North Caucasus," he added.
In his words, the up-to-date weather was favourable for blooming gardens. Therefore, gardeners may collect good harvests of apples, pears and cherries, Frolov said.
The weathermen did not predict drought this summer.
"We expect sufficient precipitations practically in all grain and agricultural regions of the country, including West Siberia, which jointly with the North Caucasus and Central part of Russia, is a very important territory for the production of grain crops and other crops like potatoes and beet," he said.
"With this in mind, we hope for a good harvest, for which weather conditions may be better in West Siberia than in the European part of Russia," the expert said.
Frolov cheered up future holidaymakers saying, "Weather conditions became warmer in general." However, the fluctuations between bad and good weather conditions are growing, he said.
"We expect weather conditions will be hot in the European part of Russia in July-August, but it will be heavy raining sometimes," he said, stressing that any weather is good for the relaxation.
